Found your dream home? Amazing, now whether it is a huge mansion or a cosy studio there are certain things that every new home needs. From the practical to the essential to the just because – getting prepared can transform moving in from chaos to a breeze.

Have a look through our handy buyer’s new home checklist and tick off as many of these as you can before you pick up the keys.

What Do Buyers Need To Buy Before They Move In?

In the excitement of buying a new home it is natural to feel all over the place. From surveys, mortgages to conveyancing it can be easy to write off buying your moving in bits as ‘not a priority’. While that is understandable, come moving in today you will wish you had at least got the essentials. So let’s start there. Remember some of the essential list might already be provided by the seller, especially if you are buying in a new development. Kitchen appliances and certain items sometimes come as standard. Hence, before buying anything from the ‘home checklist’ ask your conveyancer to check your fixtures and fittings form to see what is included.

The Home Buyer’s Essentials Checklist

Kitchen Appliances

Put the kettle on, oh wait you have one right? Kitchen appliances are top priority when moving into a new place. From saucepans, cutlery to coffee cups having a few essentials will make moving day a whole lot easier. So when you have done some of the unpacking, you can put your feet up, cook and chill.

A Good Sofa

Speaking of chilling, that is best done with a good sofa. Remember, ordering a sofa can come with long waiting times so timing this is key. You might want to start looking for the perfect pew around the same time you instruct your conveyancer. This will make sure by the time you move in you have somewhere to sit. And after all the hard work, you are definitely going to want to do that.

The Home Buyer’s Practical Must-Haves Checklist

Cleaning

Moving in can be, well, messy! Thus, having cleaning appliances like a hoover and iron will be the blessings you didn’t know you needed. Cleaning products like bleach, polish and washing up liquid will also come in handy. So, pop a few on your shopping list and get them in a box.

Bedding

Most homes will not come with a bed, so getting bedtime sorted is down to you. If you need a new bed, mattress or bedding – ordering in plenty of time will ensure you have somewhere to rest your sweet head. Once you know your completion date you can time the deliveries to be ready for that special first night.

The Just Because Checklist

Bathroom Touches

If you want to enjoy a relaxing bath and shower on your first night, having a few bathroom basics are essential. Think towels, shower gels and yep – even your toothbrush. These simple pleasures will keep moving in a whole lot more fresh and comfortable.

TV & Tech

It may be a while before you have time to kick back, netflix and chill – however when you are ready having a TV is essential. Ensuring you have thought about entertainment and any tech appliances you need before moving in (air fryer, anyone) will help you settle in.

WiFi

Setting up a wifi can take a bit of time with many providers needing to check they can service your area and send out devices. Preparing in good time will make sure you are connected as quickly as possible. Furthermore, we all know life without wifi these days can be tricky!

Where To Start With Appliances When Buying A House?

Good question, it can be hard to know where to start when you have so much to do. Lists help. Firstly, get clear on what your house comes with and go from there. You can go room by room and make a note of essentials you want by the time you move in. Speaking to your conveyancer and going through your fixtures and fittings form as early as possible. This will make sure you are clear on what is and isn’t included and you can prioritise from there. Not everything needs to be bought right away, you can work with your own budget and need to keep your home and finances sweet.
